I was excited to find a drawing of our ancestor from over 300
years ago. This is our six great grandfather Reverend James
Alexander. He lived in Raphoe, Ulster, Donegal, Ireland
from 1634-1704.
The Scottish Presbyterians back in those days didn't marry anyone
outside their ethnic group, so this relatively small group of people intermarried
a lot. We ended up being descended from four of his children
whose grandchildren and great grandchildren later married each other,
so he is in our family tree four times. He is actually our six
great grandfather, our seven great grandfather, and our eight great
grandfather.
He was an ancestor of our great great grandmother, Margaret
Alexander, who married Alexander Irwin in 1833.
