This picture was taken on the camera of Portia and Mabel's cousin, Edith Hitz. It is labeled on the back, "Awful of Aunt Mantie, Christmas 1922". Edith took a trip from Indiana to California from December 1922 at least through February 1923 and brought her camera with her. This fortunately gives us a window on what the family was doing at that time in California. Bill Garland had some of the pictures that she took on this trip and I also had some of them.
Aunt Mantie was your great or great great grandmother, Samantha. Notice that her wig is not looking very good in this picture.
In the middle is Edith Hitz, age 33, and on the right is Samantha, age 72. Do any of you know who the person on the left is? Could it be Aunt Connie?
